Train vs Pedestrian fatality

On Thursday, Nov. 25, at approximately 2:07 p.m., a woman was struck by an AMTRAK train near Golden Gardens, the Seattle Police Department reports.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was walking on the southbound tracks near NW Neptune Pl and NW Blue Ridge Dr. and didn’t hear the train coming because she was wearing headphones.

The train engineers of the Amtrak Train #7, which is the Chicago to Seattle Empire Builder, started the emergency stop procedures and sounded the air horn repeatedly.

The train was traveling approximately 38 to 40 MPH. The person continued to walk southbound down the center of the tracks and did not react to the air horn.

The train struck the person approximately 75 yards south of the west side entrance to the Blue Ridge park, which is located at NW Neptune Pl/NW Blue Ridge Dr & Triton Dr NW.

The King County Medical Examiner responded to gather additional evidence and recover the body of the 41- year- old female.

Overturned semi blocks traffic on West Seattle Bridge and West Marginal Way

At 11 a.m this morning a semi truck flipped onto its side on the West Seattle Bridge offramp exiting toward Spokane Street. The driver was able to exit the semi truck by himself and did not have to be taken to the hospital, firefighters on the scene said. Traffic going west on West Marginal way toward Spokane Street and the Admiral Way exits was redirected for several hours while workers righted the semi truck from on its side. The semi truck, hooked to a couple of tow trucks, was pulled upright around 1:30 p.m.

Because there is an ongoing investigation into the incident fire fighters at the scene would not say what had happened.

5 car collision on 35th

One car rolled over

Two of the cars involved in a 5 car rollover accident at 35th and Cloverdale on Sunday January 10th.

A woman driving southbound on 35th Ave. S.W. shortly before 2 pm on Sunday, Jan 10th was part of a serious traffic accident, Rachel (no last name given) told the West Seattle Herald reporters on the scene that she had slowed down near Cloverdale Street for a car that was slowing in front of her when a NIssan SUV collided with her car, forcing her car into the car in front of her. At that point two other vehicles, likely headed northbound on 35th encountered the accident in process, possibly coming into the northbound lanes, causing one of them to flip over. Both directions of 35th Ave. S.W. were closed and traffic was being rerouted by Seattle Police officers on the scene.

Just one person was injured in the car pictured upside down but is expected to make a full recovery.
