The victim was given followup forms to document what jewelry was missing. The responding police officer could not locate any latent prints.

Two bicycles stolen in shared garage

Nov. 10, 8:32 p.m., 1500 Block of NW 59th St -- When a woman arrived back at her home, she noticed two people she didn’t know riding bicycles from the shared garage of her building. When she entered the garage, she noticed her husband’s bicycle was “missing” -- probably stolen. The garage door was not forced open and the woman said the garage door could have been left open by another resident. Her husband’s bicycle was not secured in any way inside the garage. A second bicycle could have been stolen, the woman said, but the owner of it was not home. The woman could not provide any good description of the possible burglars.

Man gets out of car, burglar drives off with man’s car

Nov. 9, 8:51 p.m., 6000 Block of NW 90th St -- A man pulled up to the front his house to find that his motion sensor lights were on. As he sat and watched, he noticed movement in his backyard. A few minutes later, a male walked out from his neighbor’s yard and continued east on NW 90th St.

The man then got out of his car and went to the back of his house to check things out. When he turned back around, his car, with the burglar presumably in the driver’s seat, was being driven down the alley.

When the police officer showed up, he and the man went through the house. Nothing appeared to be missing, except for four rings that had been taken off the dresser in the bedroom. There were no signs of forced entry. The man said that because he keeps the outer gates locked and has high fences, he sometimes does not lock the back door to his house. The only way to get in would be to climb over the fence.

Follow Ballard News-Tribune on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ballardnewstrib

And Twitter at http://twitter.com/ballardnewstrib

Seattle Police Department

SPD

Crimes

Seattle news

Zachariah Bryan

Ballard Crime Watch

Ballard

Ballard News Tribune

Sat, 16 Nov 2013 23:11:40 +0000 Guest 40579 at https://www.westsideseattle.com Ballard Crime Watch: Lexus' window broken at Hotel Ballard, a Halloween robbery, and a handgun goes missing https://www.westsideseattle.com/ballard-news-tribune/2013/11/08/ballard-crime-watch-lexus-window-broken-hotel-ballard-halloween
Ballard Crime Watch: Lexus' window broken at Hotel Ballard, a Halloween robbery, and a handgun goes missing
 Guest (not verified) Fri, 11/08/2013 - 10:50am

A Halloween scuffle

Nov. 1, 1:41 a.m., 4300 Block of Phinney Ave N -- A man and his girlfriend went to a Halloween party on Phinney Ridge went things turned sour. However, they saw some of their tools moved over to the garage door area and found their vehicle had been rummaged through with paperwork being taken. The residence has video cameras. Upon review of the video footage they saw the suspect in their garage. The female suspect was wearing gloves. She is seen opening the door that leads into the residence, but does not enter.

The suspect is then seen leaving the garage and walking down the street. Officers conducted an area check for the suspect with negative results.

The suspect is described as a white female, 5’6, slim build, wearing a white or beige knit hat, scarf, and gloves with a white shopping bag.

Follow Ballard News-Tribune on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ballardnewstrib

And Twitter at http://twitter.com/ballardnewstrib

crime

Seattle Police Department

burglary

SPD

Ballard

Ballard News Tribune

Wed, 30 Oct 2013 17:49:59 +0000 Guest 40396 at https://www.westsideseattle.com Hit and run accident yesterday https://www.westsideseattle.com/ballard-news-tribune/2013/10/28/hit-and-run-accident-yesterday
Hit and run accident yesterday
 Guest (not verified) Mon, 10/28/2013 - 12:04pm

Photos courtesy of BNT reader

A Ballard News-Tribune reader witnessed a hit and run accident yesterday on 14th Ave NW, between NW 45th and 46th streets. The pedestrian then smashed the minivans car hood and shattered the windshield with his skateboard.

During the encounter, the mini-van drove forward and ran over the pedestrian/skateboarder. The Pedestrian/skateboarder became trapped under the mini-van. Bystanders picked up the rear of the mini-van and pulled the pedestrian/skateboarder to safety.

The Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene and medics transported the pedestrian to Harbor Medical Center with serious injuries. The adult male driver of the mini-van was not injured. There were no passengers in the mini-van at the time of the incident.

The mini-van was secured for further investigation from the TCIS. A DRE Officer interviewed the driver of the minivan and observed no indications of impairment.

The driver was released at the scene pending further investigation.

Follow Ballard News-Tribune on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ballardnewstrib

And Twitter at http://twitter.com/ballardnewstrib

crime

Seattle Police Department

SPD

Seattle news

Ballard

Ballard News Tribune

Mon, 21 Oct 2013 14:51:21 +0000 Guest 40289 at https://www.westsideseattle.com Ballard Crime Watch: Business owner attacked with skateboard, three residents fall victim to bicycle thief, burglaries around town https://www.westsideseattle.com/ballard-news-tribune/2013/10/18/ballard-crime-watch-business-owner-attacked-skateboard-three
Ballard Crime Watch: Business owner attacked with skateboard, three residents fall victim to bicycle thief, burglaries around town
 Guest (not verified) Fri, 10/18/2013 - 7:19am

Business owner hit with skateboard by Ballard Bridge

Oct. 10, 5:11 p.m., 15th Ave NW and NW Leary Way -- A business owner near the Ballard Bridge was attacked when he was on his way to his car.

The victim said he had a few run-ins with the man, who had been aggressively panhandling at the bridge. When the victim first called police, the man had raised his skateboard in a threatening manner toward the victim. Later, when the victim was walking toward his car, the man “got in his face” and then hit the victim in the face with his skateboard.

The victim was not seriously injured and the suspect left before police arrived. Several people near where the suspect was panhandling stated that the suspect had been panhandling aggressively and left shortly before the police arrived. The suspect was also seen with another male.

Three apartment complex residents have bicycles stolen in same night

Oct. 10, 10:39 p.m., 2600 Block of NW 58th St -- Three people in the same apartment complex had bicycles stolen from the community garage.

Victim No. 1: A woman’s Cannondale mountain bike was stolen overnight. She had noticed it in the garage the night before at 9:30 p.m. When she left for work in the morning at 6 a.m. She said she didn’t have any suspect or witness information but did say someone had taken a realtor key lock box containing keys to the building.

Victim No. 2: A man also had his bicycle stolen and suspects it was the same person who stole his neighbor’s. He did not have any further information or a timeline for when he last saw his bicycle.

Victim No. 3: The last victim had two bicycles stolen from the garage and had a similar timeline for the theft as the first victim. He also did not have any suspect or witness information.

The police officer gave all three victims a business card with a case number.

A bad day gets worse

Oct. 11, 4:09 p.m., 7300 Block of 15th Ave NW -- In a matter of minutes, a woman’s stress magnified tenfold.

Her day started off being stressed out by deadlines and not feeling well. She took a nap in the back of her business but left the front door unlocked. When she woke up, she went back to the front desk, picked up her phone and called her friend. She put the phone back down and went out back to take care of some things.

When she came back, her phone and her purse, which was sitting on the floor behind her desk, were both gone. In her purse she had a wallet with $60 cash, credit and debit cards, her driver’s license and keys.

She checked garbage cans outside to see if the purse had been thrown out but found nothing.

The only evidence of a possible suspect was gray hoodie. Police took it into evidence.

A family trip in Tacoma gets interrupted

Oct. 13, 4:13 p.m., 6700 Block of Dibble Ave NW -- During a family visit to Tacoma with her son, a woman became the victim of a burglary. She drove home and called police after a neighbor informed her that her house was broken into. The suspect pried open the backdoor and stole name-brand jewelry, $100-plus in change and miscellaneous prescription drugs. The burglar even emptied the victim’s son’s piggy bank and left a pill bottle in the middle of his crib.

$1,400-worth of jewelry stolen

Oct. 13, 10:29 p.m., 7700 Block of 10th Ave NW -- A woman had $1,400-worth of jewelry stolen when a burglar pried open a locked window and rifled through drawers in the upstairs bedroom. The responding police officer took photos of the pry marks. The victim opted to give a detailed list after the time of this report.

Intoxicated man robbed by drinking buddies

Oct. 13, 6:04 p.m., 1400 Block of NW Market St -- In the Ballard Safeway, a police officer found a man passed out in front of the cash registers. The officer woke him up and asked if he would like to go outside the store and see the Seattle Fire Department medics. The man slowly stood up and stumbled his way out of the front entrance.

Once outside, it was quickly apparent that he was too intoxicated to tell SFD what his injuries were, if any. He mumbled incoherently and yelled random words at the medics, before finally telling them to “fuck off.”

The officer tried to interview the victim to find out what happened. He was still unable to give a coherent message. He was eventually able to say that two or three of his “friends” or “drinking buddies” robbed him of $20.

Follow Ballard News-Tribune on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ballardnewstrib

And Twitter at http://twitter.com/ballardnewstrib

Seattle Police Department

SPD

Seattle news

Zachariah Bryan

Bauhaus Coffee

Ballard

Ballard News Tribune

Fri, 18 Oct 2013 14:19:05 +0000 Guest 40267 at https://www.westsideseattle.com Ballard Hair salon window broken by 'destructive' person https://www.westsideseattle.com/ballard-news-tribune/2013/10/17/ballard-hair-salon-window-broken-destructive-person
Ballard Hair salon window broken by 'destructive' person
 Guest (not verified) Thu, 10/17/2013 - 12:28pm

A couple of nights ago, someone intentionally broke the outside window of the Ballard Hair Salon.

A worker at the salon said that no rock or object had been discovered on the inside. The window is estimated to be $2,000.

The business was not actually broken into and nothing was stolen.

When asked why she thought someone would break their window, the worker at the salon said, "Well you know, old Ballard isn't what it used to be."

The customer in the chair, who said she has lived in Ballard since there were still a couple of dime stores, gave a small chortle, "That's for sure."

Ballard Hair Salon is still open for business.

Follow Ballard News-Tribune on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ballardnewstrib

And Twitter at http://twitter.com/ballardnewstrib

Seattle Police Department

SPD

Seattle news

Zachariah Bryan

Ballard Hair Salon

Ballard

Ballard News Tribune

Thu, 17 Oct 2013 19:28:45 +0000 Guest 40259 at https://www.westsideseattle.com A ranch dip temper tantrum turns violent at Jack in the Box https://www.westsideseattle.com/ballard-news-tribune/2013/10/14/ranch-dip-temper-tantrum-turns-violent-jack-box
A ranch dip temper tantrum turns violent at Jack in the Box
 Guest (not verified) Mon, 10/14/2013 - 2:30pm

From Seattle Police Blotter

After learning that the first two packets of ranch dressing were free but that he would have to pay for a third, a customer at the Ballard Jack In the Box flew into a rage and attacked a 68-year-old man.

It was just before 12:30 PM when the suspect walked up to the counter of the Jack in the Box in the 900 block of Leary Way and asked a clerk for some ranch dip.

The cashier obliged the man’s request and provided two packets of dip, but the man demanded a third.
After the clerk told him another packet would cost 25 cents, the man became incensed and began yelling about how he was being overcharged.

In an attempt to prevent the man from causing a scene, the cashier provided the suspect a third container. This did little to calm the suspect.

When a 68-year-old patron overheard the man hassling the cashier and stepped in, the suspect shoved the 68-year-old man to the ground. The 68-year-old was not seriously injured.

The suspect left the store, grumbled something about how he had a knife, climbed onto a purple bike and rode off down the street.

Follow Ballard News-Tribune on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ballardnewstrib

And Twitter at http://twitter.com/ballardnewstrib

Seattle Police Department

SPD

Seattle news

Zachariah Bryan

Ballard

Ballard News Tribune

Mon, 14 Oct 2013 21:30:40 +0000 Guest 40214 at https://www.westsideseattle.com
