Delridge burglary foiled by neighbor
Officers arrested a man Tuesday morning, Feb. 27, for burglary after an observant neighbor saw him trying to break into a Delridge home. The man was spotted around 8:45 a.m., attempting to burglarize a house in the 1200 block of SW Othello St. The witness continued to update dispatchers, as officers headed to the property. She saw a white Cadillac Escalade driving away from the home. The King County Sheriff’s Guardian One helicopter was in the area and spotted the SUV. The pilot directed officers to the vehicle in the 1600 block of SW Holden St. Seattle police officers were then able to stop the vehicle and take the 23-year-old suspect into custody. Detectives believe the thief may be responsible for an additional burglary in the area. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of burglary.
Argument, threats result from mental illness
Around 10:43 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27, officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of Delridge Way SW, after receiving a report of a man with a knife. The caller met officers in the lobby. She explained to them that a friend who lived on the same floor stole a few items from her. When she confronted him about the theft, he pulled out a knife and threatened to kill her. Then, a staff member from the building came up to officers, handing over two knives that he removed from the suspect’s home in an effort to de-escalate the situation. Staff members explained that the man had mental issues and would be scared if officers went to his room. Eventually, the officers were able to interview the suspect. He told them that he had been arguing with the caller for a couple of days over $20 that he owes her. The suspect said the woman threatened him and kicked him. A witness said that the argument was racially based. Officers believe that the argument was caused due to both parties having mental issues. They were able to review surveillance footage of the argument. The video was placed into evidence.
Thieves strike twice for victim on 36 Ave SW
When officers arrived in the 4600 block of 36 Ave SW around 1:57 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28 to investigate a burglary, the victim met them in the lobby of his building. One of the officers recognized him right away, because the man had just filed a report of a stolen vehicle at the SW Precinct. The victim had explained to police that his keys and backpack were stolen along with the vehicle. He told officers that he let the maintenance man at his building know about the crime and was given a new pair of keys and fob for his building. When the man returned home, he found his door open and lights on. He left immediately and called police. Officers cleared the apartment. They found that the television was moved from a bedroom to the living room. A file was taken from the kitchen to the living room. The sheets were moved on his bed. A check on the man’s desk was gone. Officers were unable to find any fingerprints.
