Florence Ann Meyer

Florence Ann Meyer, formerly of West Seattle, passed away peacefully at the age of 94, on July 8, 2018.  She was born in Seattle on June 7, 1924 to Harry & Vera Peterson.  She graduated from West Seattle High School in the class of 1942, and went on to attend Whitman College for two years where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.  She earned her elementary school teaching certificate at Western Washington College of Education, and also enjoyed studying art there, creating beautiful drawings and watercolor paintings. Her creativity continued to flourish in a variety ways throughout her life including the times she hosted lovely parties, made baby caps for hospitals, and when she was inspired to write stories for children.

After college, Florence taught kindergarten in elementary schools in Auburn, Bainbridge Island, and the Seattle Public Schools.  She married William C. Meyer on April 5, 1947 and they had two children, Peter and Marilee. Bill & Florence were members of Tibbett’s Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. They continued to reside in West Seattle until Bill & Florence moved to Bremerton to live near their daughter and her family in 1996. The loving couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997 with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their favorite vacation spot in San Diego, California.

Her many relatives and friends will always remember Florence for her kind, compassionate and generous ways.   Even though she developed dementia the last few years, she kept her sweet personality.  Florence was well-loved by her family, and is survived by her daughter, Marilee, her husband, Kevin, and their sons, Dan & Brian Donohoe.  Her son, Peter (Riva), recently passed away in April 2018, and is survived by sons: Delaney (Valencia), Darby (Olivia), Jody, and Lonny (Poema) Meyer.  Florence’s great-grandchildren include: Saunjay, Malavai, Lia and Nalu Meyer, Jahaun, Darion & Khyriece Campbell, and Mike Zamboni.  She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Graves, nephew, Mike Graves, and niece, Nancy Johnson.  Florence’s husband, Bill, passed away in 2003.
