Joyce Pavlick 1925 - 2018

Joyce Pavlick passed away in Wenatchee, Washington on September 4, 2018, where she had lived for the last 9 months near her children.  She was born on June 25, 1925 in the small town of Lansing, Iowa to Alice and Arthur Greenley.  Her family, including her grandparents and brother Bob, survived the early depression years by pulling together to run the family hardware store.  During the war her family moved to San Bruno, California to find employment and Joyce worked for Pan American Airways.  In 1947 she married David Jessup and moved to West Seattle where she was blessed with four children Judy, Jennifer, David and Carolyn.  Joyce took her first trip to Europe alone and without an itinerary in 1972 and was never the same.  She returned many times alone and with friends and filled her home with beautiful memories.  Joyce met and married a very special man, Bill Pavlick, in 1976 and they enjoyed 20 wonderful years together.

Mom loved West Seattle and lived there for almost 70 years.  She volunteered at the Discovery Shop in the Junction for many years and was a familiar face at the Metropolitan Market, the Senior Center and many stores throughout West Seattle.  Her real passion was shopping and she loved working downtown as an Executive Secretary where she could shop every day during her lunch hour.  She was a prolific letter writer and gift-giver and never missed sending love and best wishes on every birthday and holiday.  Through the ups and downs of life, Joyce was the center of our family in every way and she will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill Pavlick, brother Bob Greenley, sister-in-law Donna Greenley and grandson Justin Herrmann and leaves behind her children Judy [Tom] Herrmann, Jennifer [Michael] McIntyre, David [Mary] Jessup and Carolyn Gallaway, as well as 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.  Her last years in West Seattle were made possible because she was looked after by a village of wonderful people including bank tellers at Wells Fargo, cashiers at Metropolitan Market, shopkeepers in the Junction, the services of the West Seattle Senior Center and many kind strangers.  Our family would like to thank each and every one of you.
