FEDERAL WAY - SeaTac 2B League Seattle Lutheran took full control with aggressive postures to deal a 55 - 24 girls basketball defeat to the home standing SeaTac1B League Christian Faith Eagles on Tues., Dec. 11, on the campus of Christian Faith School.
The new floor that was installed during the summer proved beneficial for the ever-learning group from West Seattle.
“We’re working at playing at our level,” Saints head coach Bailey Menashe said. “There was more game experience for everybody and we utilized different things. We even tried man-to-man defense.”
With the defense creating numerous chances to score, Dea Seraile, Melina Menashe, and Sofia Libao spearheaded Seattle Lutheran for the first 15 points of the game on the way to a 15-1 lead after one quarter.
CFHS took advantage of some SLHS sluggishness to draw within 15-8 midway through the second quarter.
Alondra Lopez and Maddie Jensen each scored a basket ahead of three straight inside the paint baskets by Shay Tjostolvson. Menashe sank a short range basket to complete a 12 - 0 Saint point surge to end the half as SL grew the margin to 27 - 8 at the half.
Tjostvolson positioned well for rebounds and scored a game high 19 points.
“My teammates would find me (with passes) and I just ran down,” she said.
Thereafter, the Saints substituted liberally, experimenting with different player combinations to lead by as many as 38 points twice in the fourth quarter.
Menashe scored eight points as Maddie Gardner and Lopez added six apiece.
Freshman Virginia Muriithi scored 15 points for Christian Faith.
