October 6, 1959 – January 5, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, John Wesley Spridgeon Jr., on January 5, 2025, at the age of 65, after a courageous ten-year battle with lung cancer. His strength, tenacity, and remarkably positive outlook throughout his illness were a true testament to the spirit in which he lived his life.
Born on October 6, 1959, in Seattle, Washington, John was the eldest of four siblings and took immense pride in his family. From an early age, he showed strength, compassion, intelligence, and a deep sense of responsibility, qualities he carried with him throughout his life. He graduated from Chief Sealth High School in 1977.
John was a pioneer in the sport of Disc Golf, beginning in the 1970s with friends at Lincoln Park in West Seattle. They would mark trees with ribbons and ropes to create makeshift courses, long before baskets were standard. For over 50 years, John played with passion and joy until cancer made it physically impossible to continue.
John deeply loved his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, son, cherished brother, and loyal friend. He leaves behind his father - John Wesley Spridgeon Sr. (Kendall), son - Wesley Devon Spridgeon (Paige), grandchildren -Cameron, Zoey, Lilly & Bloom, the absolute apples of his eye. He is also survived by his brother Jim Spridgeon (Karen), sisters Amy (Spridgeon) Bugh (Ricky) and Lisa (Spridgeon) Capeloto (Kim), along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom were blessed by his kindness, humor, and unwavering support.
He was preceded in death by our beloved mother, Karen Ann Spridgeon,
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM on the waterfront at Lincoln Park (just north of Colman Pool). All are welcome to join us in honoring John’s life and legacy and are encouraged to wear a classic rock T-shirt, his go-to form of dressing up.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for support on a GoFundMe https://gofund.me/2e483767 campaign to create a charity Disc Golf tournament in John's honor - one way to keep his spirit and love for the game alive.
Though our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the years we shared with John. His memory will live on in each of us, forever held in love.
