The Federal Way city council announced they have selected Neal Beets as the new city manager, to start work on August 1st.
Until July 21, Beets is the city manager of Roseville, Minnesota. A city of nearly 34,000, it borders the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolis and is a commercial and retail hub of the northeast suburban area.
Home to more than 2,200 businesses, the city of Roseville has a budget of $33 million and a staff of 170.
Prior to assuming the city manager position in Roseville, Beets was a city attorney in Mesa, Arizona.
I have lived in Burien for 13 years. In the last few, I have seen wonderful improvements in many facets of community life. I've been thrilled with the renovation of Southwest 152nd Street and the planned Town Square.

The Highline YMCA has been concerned about the growing obesity crisis in our community and has partnered with Children's Hospital to provide an intensive 12-week program for inactive children, ages 8-12, called, "Strong Kids."
The program consists of twice-weekly 90-minute sessions followed by six months of follow-up and coaching.
The Burien Residents Against Annexation Political Action Committee recently conducted one-on-one meetings with each of the Burien City Council members.
The purpose of these meetings was for the PAC to alert the council to serious problems in the budget numbers being provided by the city staff.
