Republicans will challenge incumbent Democrats in only three of eight legislative races in the Highline area this year.
None of the local legislative contests will be on the Sept. 19 primary election ballot.
The race that likely will receive the most attention is the re-election bid of Sen.
The Washington Supreme Court held last week that former Des Moines City Councilman Gary Petersen had no conflict of interest in owning Pete's Towing while serving on the council.
"I am glad the courts have finally vindicated me," Petersen declared after receiving the news.
Sound Transit and the Port of Seattle are working together to bring light rail to Sea-Tac Airport.
With light rail construction in progress along the Interstate 5 and State Route 518 corridors, the link to Sea-Tac International Airport is scheduled to open by the end of 2009.
"Light rail is going to be a fast and reliable way for people to get between the airport and downtown, no matter how much congestion is on the roads, and on a time they can depend on," Geoff Patrick, spokesman for Sound Transit, said recently.

The July 26 Times/News erroneously reported that if Seattle annexes either all or part of North Highline, water customers in Burien will see a sharp increase in their rates. However, only Burien residents who are ratepayers in Water District 20, which serves north Burien and North Highline, would experience a rate increase. The Times/News regrets the error and any confusion that may have resulted.
Highline-area Medic One paramedics will be among the beneficiaries of the Northwest Vehicle Nationals Car Show fundraiser in Covington.
Proceeds from the event on Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Covington Wal-Mart will benefit the Medic One Foundation.
The foundation helps provide King County Medic One paramedics with training, knowledge and experience necessary to offer the best chances for survival.
