Highline levy supported

One evening this week, my remarkable wife and I were at a local real estate company calling voters to encourage them to vote for the Highline School levy. After so many years of not being able to pass a bond or levy, it is so exciting to see that we are finally investing in education and our children.

As I called voters, they were so positive about our schools and the decisions we have made in recent years to invest in them. One woman was so excited about the new school planned at Shorewood.

Yes on Highline levy

As a resident of White Center, it is so exciting to see the improvements we have made in our schools over the recent years. For so long, we could not pass a bond or levy. But now, we have several new schools and so much community support for this levy. Ask the children what they think of their new schools. They will tell you that they love them. And so will their parents and teachers.

On March 13, we are being asked to continue our school levy funding. Voting yes to continue this levy is a good decision. What better way to protect our future than investing in our public schools.

Wrong photographer listed

Thank you for publishing (Feb. 28) the photograph of Miss Seafair, Erin Waid and the West Seattle Hi-Yu Junior Court taken at the Hi-Yu Valentine's Tea. We appreciate your continued coverage of our Hi-Yu activities.

The photograph is beautiful but I cannot take the credit. The photo was taken by Joanne Murray of Murray's Photography. Joanne came to the tea, crutches and all, took pictures of every guest and kindly gave each person a complimentary copy as a remembrance of the tea.

Ostrich on sports

Congratulations to the West Seattle Herald for their ostrich-like behavior when it comes to sports coverage on the web-based West Seattle Herald. For the last few weeks I've been berating them for their lack of sports coverage despite having two highly-ranked teams in their area of responsibility, including the two-time defending girls basketball state champions.

Last week I threw down the gauntlet, asking why they bother to have a sports section with their lack of coverage.

Al Gore won after all

A comparison of the two men who ran against each other for president of the United States in the year 2000 is very revealing.

On the one hand, we have President George W. Bush, who won this office under troubling circumstances.

The monumental nature of his incompetence as president came to light in the face of the two profound catastrophes that struck the nation during his "reign" i.e. the aftermath of Sept. 11 and Hurricane Katrina. In both events he proved incapable of comprehending the real nature of these tragedies.

At the intersection

The Crown Hill 3-5's Cooperative Preschool goes on numerous field trips throughout the school year; the Ballard Locks, Northwest Puppet Theater, Center for Wooden Boats and closest to home, trick or treating at nearby businesses. One stop always stands out - the small store angled at the corner of Northwest 24th and 80th, Saleh's Delicatessen.
