Virginia Lee Drury (Bailey)

A long time West Seattle resident passed away November 27th after complications from a brain aneurysm at Harborview Medical Center.

Born February 20, 1938 in Yakima, WA, Lee lived in West Seattle for more than 40 years in Alki Beach, Admiral District and the West Seattle Junction areas. Lee was an outstanding graphic artist and was Art Director at Jay Jacobs and the Bon Marche'. She also enjoyed teaching aerobics and other various classes at Hiawatha, High Point and Delridge Community Centers. Lee was also involved with the Northwest Boychoir.

Doris Gillespie

Doris Jansen Gillespie was born October 28, 1911 in Seattle, WA where she resided for her entire life with the exception of 2 school years spent in Seward Alaska, w/ Summers at that time at the Fauntleroy beach. Her parents were Charles Henry Jansen & Jennie Louise Jansen, nee Wright (of family stock arriving before statehood). She graduated from the original Lafayette Grade School & West Seattle High School, entered the UW at age 16, and graduated w/ a degree in medical social work at age 20.

Lloyd Victor Parsons

Passed away on December 24, 2007 at 92. He was born May 6, 1915 in Huntley, MN to Homer and Rosa Ellen Parsons as one of five children. Lloyd married Dorothy Lien (from Delavan, MN) on May 5, 1940 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They had three children: Kay, Judy and Jeff. In 1942, Lloyd and Dorothy moved to Seattle where he worked at the Shipyards as a sheet metal worker. In 1944 he was called to serve as a Seabee. Dorothy and the girls lived in Delavan while he was gone. When he came back from Guam they returned to the northwest and raised their family in Seattle.

Carole Swenson

Carole Swenson, beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend left us unexpectedly on December 31, 2007. Carole had no enemies and was loved by all those she touched.

Carole Lorraine Cathey was born on October 22, 1947 to Marquis Leonard and Dorothy Marie Cathey and spent her sixty joy-filled years as a Seattle resident. Carole graduated from West Seattle High School in 1965 and joined the phone company. She spent thirty years with US West Communications where she met dear friends and her husband and life companion, Gus Swenson.

Lillie Mae Thurston

Lillie Mae Thurston, Alki resident since 1945 passed December 14, 2007. Beloved wife of Richard A., devoted and loving mother of Jeri and Richard C. Cherished grandmother of Nell Chonle and Jennifer Garcia, great grandmother of Lindsay and Christopher Garcia, devoted sister of Lois Daniels, Buck Bennett, Nell Fleming and Cooter Glover. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Correction

Fred Ashbaugh was pictured standing on the balcony of his home in the Dec. 12 Times/News. During the Dec. 3 storm, dirt from his front yard collapsed and slid into Cove Point Road and a home below.

Ashbaugh was misidentified in the cutline for the photograph and an incorrect address was given for his house. The correct address is 13103 Shorewood Dr. S.W.

The person in a front-page photo was also misidentified. Tony Bull was pictured inspecting slide damage to his mother's home on Cove Point Road.

Breeders Theater actors take on politics

Politics takes center stage later this month in Breeders Theater's 13th production, Crazy/Naked, at E.B. Foote Winery, 127-B S.W. 153rd St., Burien.

Written by Highline playwright T.M. Sell, Crazy/Naked is directed by Doug Knoop with music by Nancy Warren.

Knoop suggested the idea for the show last year.

"After the holidays it's going to be all about politics," Knoop recalled recently.

"I said something to this effect when TM and I were discussing the 2008 winter show ...

Foster High critic wrong

I read Mr. Slusher's Dec. 19 letter about Tukwila's Foster High School protest. I very much appreciated knowing that the board of the United States Selective Service System takes a close look at the track record of individuals claiming exemptions as conscientious objectors. That is a good thing.

I also agree that a draft is imminent if this country continues with its current foreign policy. I have not figured out why the letter was sent to the attorney general but it really doesn't matter.

Highline combatants say critical port audit only revealed tip of the iceberg

Battle scarred Highline veterans of the war against construction of the third runway at Sea-Tac International Airport are not surprised by an audit critical of the Port of Seattle.

The state audit released late last month charged the port, which operates the airport, squandered $97.2 million in taxpayer funds on construction projects over a three-year period.
