Santa has arrived at Westwood Village!

Have your FREE photo taken for a food donation to the West Seattle Food Bank

The man in the red suit, Santa Claus himself has arrived at Westwood Village and is taking Christmas gift requests from young and old alike right up until he has to head back to the North Pole to get ready for the big day.

But the best part is that you can get a FREE photo with Santa just by showing up with a donation for the White Center Food Bank of a non perishable food item. You can also take advantage of the Giving Tree there at Santa's House that will benefit the Salvation Army and people they have chosen in our community.

Santa's House is located between Bed, Bath and Beyond and John L. Scott Realtors and across from 24 Hour Fitness at Westwood Village. The interior decorations were all done by Westwood Village Manager Stuart Crandall. The photographer on duty is the well known West Seattle photographer Bruce Savadow who (along with Santa) is in his 14th year at Santa's House.

Ballard Food Police: British Ambience in Ballard

The Market Arms Pub

2401 NW Market St

(206) 789-0470
http://themarketarms.com/

Weekdays 11am - 2am

Saturday & Sunday 10am - 2am

Opened in June 2010 in the beautiful space formerly occupied by Mandrake Antiques, the Market Arms brings food, drink and ambience similar to the George & Dragon Pub in Fremont (and is run by the same owners).

It’s really all about the vibe at both of these places, and the Market Arms is a most comfortable place to have a pint, partake in some British-style comfort food, and watch a little soccer. For it’s soccer that rules the roost at Market Arms, although followers of American football, baseball and non-soccer events can catch the action here as well. But not surprisingly, soccer is number one.

Warm and prompt service is also the norm, with a well-practiced team of servers getting the food and drink out quickly and with a smile. Clearly reflective of a philosophy that drives similar service at the sister George and Dragon, the service if free of nonsense, and the staff act like they’ve done it before.

American Express and more than a dozen organizations hoping to stimulate the economy

In a nationally organized but locally focused promotional effort, today, Nov. 27 is Small Business Saturday.
Spearheaded by American Express, the effort is aimed at stimulating the economy by keeping dollars spent as local as possible.

The website is http://smallbusinesssaturday.com and the following is from the FAQ section of that site:

What is Small Business Saturday?
More than a dozen advocacy, public, and private organizations are joining American Express OPEN, the company’s small business unit, in declaring the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday. This year, Small Business Saturday is November 27, 2010.

Is Small Business Saturday designed to get people to stop shopping at larger businesses or online?

West Seattle Actors take on Lyle the Crocodile at Seattle Children’s Theatre

Julie Briskman and Allen Galli round out a stellar cast in this tap-dancing, musical adventure

If you are looking for a rousing and uplifting musical for the kids this holiday season, look no further than Lyle the Crocodile by Kevin Kling, playing at Seattle Children’s Theatre through Jan. 9.

Opening night on Friday revealed a polished and lively production with a stellar cast – two of which hale from West Seattle. Julie Briskman, who plays the delightfully spunky Miss Primm, has been a West Seattle resident for nine years. Allan Galli, playing the deliciously foul-tempered Mr. Grumps, has lived here for 20 years.

Based on the beloved children’s books The House on East 88th St. by Bernard Waber, the play features the adventures of Lyle, a mute-but-lovable crocodile, and his adopted family. Although the original story was published in 1962, the themes are still extremely relevant today.

“This show has a huge heart, without being preachy,” said Briskman. “It’s a great reminder to love each other for who we are and how vital it is to accept others, no matter what their differences. And with all the current news about the tragic effects of bullying, this theme couldn’t be timelier.”

Seattle Police Department offers holiday safety tips

Even if you think you know, these are worth reading again

From the SPD Blotter:

It’s that time of year! Friends, family, shopping, dining and crime? While anytime is a good time to think about personal safety and crime prevention, the Seattle Police Department would like to remind citizens of some easy techniques that will help keep them and their property safe during the holidays!

CAR PROWL PREVENTION
• When you exit or enter your parked vehicle, take a moment to look around the area.
• Turn off and lock your car whenever you have to walk away from it. This includes at gas pumps, ATM machines, etc. Never leave your car idling.
• Before leaving your parked car, always remove the keys, roll up the windows and lock the car.
• Leave No Valuables in Your Car. Never leave valuables in your car. Items of little or no value to you still look inviting to a thief. Even pocket change is enough of an enticement for some thieves.
