Floating piers at Don Armeni being reinstalled

Bellingham Marine crews are working to complete the retrofit after the initial design failed; New security enhancements are now in place

Bellingham Marine Industries (BMI) is currently working on the Don Armeni Boat Ramp Replacement Project in West Seattle. The boat ramp initially reopened in March 2024, but in the interim, the hinges between the floats failed, and the concrete on the floats was spalling and cracking.

To address these structural issues, BMI is removed all the concrete floats, except those connected to the abutment on both the north and south sides of the ramp. The removal process began on November 7, 2024, and the floats have been stored within the boat launch facility parking lot. BMI collaborated with Seattle Parks and Recreation on a retrofit design, and the replacement floats are now being installed.

Sound Transit Expansion Committee sends West Seattle and Ballard Link Extension budget amendments to full board without recommendation

Budget amendments seek an additional $105 million; Overall extension costs have ballooned to more than $9 to $12 billion

The Sound Transit Expansion Committee held its meeting on Thursday, April 10, 2025, where a key agenda item, Resolution No. R2025-10, concerning significant budget amendments for the West Seattle and Ballard Link Extension projects, was discussed at length but ultimately forwarded to the full board without a recommendation. The next board meeting is set for April 24, five days prior to the current date for the Federal Transportation Administration to issue its Record of Decision.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) needs to issue a Record of Decision (ROD) for the Sound Transit West Seattle Link Extension because it's a crucial step in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. The ROD signifies that the federal environmental review is complete and allows the project to move forward into final design and construction.

Here’s why the FTA’s approval matters:

Seattle Police refute rumor of ICE agents near schools

A rumor that spread online Wednesday about ICE agents near Seattle Schools was refuted online by the Seattle Police Department on Thursday. In a post on the SPD Blotter they stated:

The Seattle Police Department would like to clear the air regarding recent rumors and false media reports that have understandably fueled community concerns about alleged U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity near a school on Wednesday, April 9.

A school administrator emailed parents and community members stating an ICE vehicle had been seen near the school. This was false. The vehicle was from the Seattle Police Department as part of a commitment to prevent crime and protect students near schools where violence has become a concern.
