Kennedy Catholic got things started early when running back D.J. Hardy scored on a 73 yard rushing touchdown for the only score in the first quarter. Early in the second quarter the Lancers marched down field to the 11 yard line when quarterback Jason Thompson connected with receiver Conner Richardson for the touchdown, upping the lead to 14-0. The Lancers would score again after starting with good field position on Renton’s 41 yard line. The drive ended with another touchdown pass from Thompson to Richardson.
On the other side, Renton struggled to get the ball into the red zone, having to punt every possession with very few first downs. The Indians were finally able to put together a successful drive near the end of the second quarter. They got the ball down to the 1 yard line where running back Anthony Gold topped it off with a one yard touchdown run, finally putting them on the board. This would end up being their only points of the game.
After Renton's kickoff Kennedy Catholic started with great field position on their own 41 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage Colin Cossette ran 59 yards into the end zone for another Lancer score. The Lancers then went for a two point conversion but was unsuccessful.
In the second half Renton’s offense began to show some potential but were still unable to get into the end zone. Meanwhile Kennedy Catholic continued to stay consistent, starting most possessions with great field position. Quarterback Jason Thompson was able to score on a 23 yard run, pushing the lead to 34-7.
Near the end of the fourth quarter Lancer running back Orion Prescott added another big run of 38 yards into the end zone. This was Kennedy Catholic’s fifth touchdown from 20 or more yards out. The Lancers’s defense earned themselves 2 points when they tackled Renton's Savion Phillips in the end zone for a safety, ending the games scoring at 43-7.
Despite being trampled Renton put together 269 total yards on offense. Indian's running back Anthony Gold was a little off his average of 150 yards a game, putting up 133 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown. One of Renton’s biggest struggles was penalties, racking up a huge number of negative yards.
On Kennedy Catholic’s side quarterback Jason Thompson went 7 for 12 passing with 2 touchdowns and one 23 yard rushing touchdown, continuing a great performance he put together the previous week when he passed for 10 of 11 with three touchdowns against Foster. Connor Richardson, who for the second week in a row, had two touchdown catches from Thompson. Lancer coach Bob Bourgette said after the win they played a very tough and physical game. “We were able to find a good balance between the passing and run game" he said, "and our blocking was excellent”. Kennedy is now the only remaining undefeated team in the Seamount League.
The Lancers will try and stay undefeated when they make a trip back to Renton Stadium on Oct. 14th, to take on the Lindbergh Eagles (3-2, 2-1).
