Bring in your cans and boxes of food to donate and you'll be entered in a drawing to win 2 movie passes to see the Hunger Games! We'll draw a winner on Friday at our Hunger Games party. We’ll be celebrating the release of the movie with games, a fashion show, and trivia.
The Burien Library is celebrating the release of the Hunger Games movie on March 23rd with a food drive and a special program aimed at encouraging area teens to read the popular series of books.
From now until Friday, March 23rd the library is hosting a food drive for the Highline Area Food Bank called “Hunger is Not a Game.” For every item brought in, the person donating can fill out a slip with their name and phone number and be entered in a drawing to win 2 movie passes to see the film. Library staff will draw the name of the winner on Friday afternoon at the Hunger Games party. All members of the community, not just teens, are encouraged to donate.
On Friday, March 23rd from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, the library will host a Hunger Games Party. This party is free and is open to students in middle and high school. They will be able to decorate cookies at “Peeta’s Bakery,” compete in “Katniss’s survival skills challenge,” participate in “Cinna’s fashion contest,” and play Hunger Games trivia! Some lucky winners will get their own “Tribute Backpacks” filled with surprises.
The Hunger Games, a popular trilogy written by young adult author Suzanne Collins, follows Katniss Everdeen as she decides to take her younger sister’s place to compete in an annual televised event in which 24 teens are forced to fight to the death. The dystopian series has spent 81 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.
