I see in the West Seattle Herald (Sept. 13) the mayor wants to plant more trees. This is just after the city cut a lot of beautiful trees in a park just off Pioneer Square even after a public protest.
Also the mayor wants to give Paul Allen and South Lake Union a streetcar, after they took our streetcar away on the waterfront.
The mayor says he wants to make Seattle safer and more livable - I agree. I want to live while crossing Admiral Way several times a week as a volunteer at Life Care Center - West Seattle.
The city says there is no money for a push-button light at 47th Avenue Southwest and Admiral Way, and no money for police patrol of speeders. What is wrong with this picture? Where are the little Boy Scouts so dedicated to helping old ladies across the streets? (We all know that joke!)
No joke on Sept. 13 at 1:45 p.m. A car came speeding down Admiral Way just as I crossed at 48th Avenue Southwest. According to the law, every intersection is a crosswalk and cars must stop. (The Department of Transportation tells me this.) Anyway I was about 4 to 6 feet from the west curb and I thought for sure he would hit me. I wagged my cane and he came to a screeching stop, rolled down his window and berated me. (You know who you are.)
I really was frightened at 80 years old and crippled - what to do? It really spoiled my day of volunteering. Something has to be done about the speeding and nonstoppers before someone is dead. Please God not me!
