Charlie Chong died (April 26) and the City of Seattle is poorer for our loss. Charlie and I didn't agree on all political issues, but one always knew Charlie was honest and was always working for what he felt was right.
He brought new life to a City Council that was, and is again, mired in process and hidden agendas. He spoke out, and was often chided by other council members for his honesty and principles. When he found a way for the city to save $150,000 on snow plows he was told it was not a council member's job to find specific ways to save money, as that was the responsibility of the city's purchasing department. The council rejected his idea - and then approved the same plan at the higher cost.
We need more council members like Charlie Chong.
Thank you, Charlie, for working to make Seattle a better place to live.
