Tough talk on the viaduct replacement seems to be a reversal of decision. After the 2001 Nisqually Quake our governor and Legislatures allocated $2.8 billion for the viaduct replacement. This was a firm promise in regards to the public safety. Seven years passed and we still don't have a viaduct replacement and we won't until a new option is decided by 2012, some 11 years later. Looks as though the safety of the public was put on hold.
The two options on the table are a surface street/transit and an elevated structure. We have both now but not to the liking of some. The surface option was not on the 2007 election, due to a rigged election ballot, which was designed to demolish the present viaduct. Any new option that was not on that 2007 election must be voted on by the people.
An ideal situation would be a combination of an elevated roadway with surface street/transit off and on ramps access at Pioneer Square to the south and Lenora street to the north. This option would satisfy the surface street plan and still maintain the mobility and transportation needs for the future.
It is our concern that the Port of Seattle and the business community are not part of the Stakeholder's Advisory plans. The surface street option by itself will be a disaster in the making and would destroy our industrial economy. It is essential for our future transportation needs that the communities of West Seattle north to Ballard and all in between unite together and say, "Enough is Enough." Get our priorities in order and demand our Legislature to act now instead of waiting for a disaster to happen.
Honor your oath of office or resign. Your word is your bond. Act now, with no more flip-flopping.
