A recent flyer came to my attention.
This flyer entitled "Vote for the Women (Just this time)" is an attack on the car dealers of Burien.
Who are these citizens?
Well, I am surprised that the "ladies" agreed to this juvenile effort to discredit the segment of the Burien economy that contributes more in retail sales tax revenue than any other segment of our increasingly vibrant Burien economy.
Attacking car dealers really skirts the issue. Maybe we should see who these car dealers are - after all, businesses are run by people.
Let me introduce some of them:
Dean Anderson, community volunteer and a founder of Discover Burien. He served on the executive committee and on the 19 member steering committee.
Ryan Warnes, a volunteer and founder of Discover Burien and one of the 19 member steering committee. He is an active member of the Citizens Advisory Committee, and the Burien Business and Economic Development Partnership.
Mark Minium is a volunteer and former chair of the Burien Business and Economic Development Partnership. He is a proponent and supporter of the First Avenue South utility lines undergrounding project.
Several auto dealers have contributed more than $125,000 to the Highline Cancer Center over the last three years.
When I was doing some janitor work in the Hurricane Katrina relief project in the Gottschalks' building, a volunteer asked me for ideas on how to load four huge pallet loads of clothing into the Salvation Army truck. With one phone call to Mark Minium at Burien Honda, we had a fork lift and two pallet trucks with 30 minutes.
That's our community at work.
Issues? The betterment of the Burien economy is the main issue. These gentlemen have observed the ladies in action and simply desire to support their candidates of choice for Burien City Council.
Attack letters harm me, harm you, and harm our city.
