Space heater causes fire
that destroys apartment
October 30-A space heater is the likely cause of an overnight fire at the Century Apartments on Eighth Avenue Southwest.
According to investigators from the Burien/Normandy Park Fire Department, a man was sleeping in an upstairs apartment when he awakened and noticed smoke and flames.
The man, who managed to get out, was treated for cuts and smoke inhalation.
Investigators said the apartment was a complete loss.

Drunk driver slams into
dump truck at work site
November 2-A Washington State Department of Transportation dump truck was struck from behind by an alleged drunk driver as an employee was attempting to remove debris from the shoulder of southbound Interstate 5 near the Kent-Des Moines Road shortly before 10 a.m.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Gerardo P. Ramirez, 25, of Renton, who was driving a Ford pickup, was arrested for DUI and no auto insurance.
The WSDOT dump truck was parked on the right shoulder while the employee was outside the vehicle removing debris. As he was working he observed the 1998 Ford pick up truck traveling southbound drift onto the shoulder and hit the back of the WSDOT dump truck.
The state employee was not injured.
