The public is invited to the second open house on the City Center Access Project from 4 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 12, 2008, at the Macy's courtyard at The Commons at Federal Way, 1928 South Commons Way (near the I-5 interchange and south of S 320th Street). Korean and Spanish interpreters will be available along with materials translated into those languages.
The City of Federal Way, the Washington State Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, and a team of consultants are inviting the public to drop in, receive information and ask questions about the City Center Access Project. Staff will take public comments, answer questions and listen to concerns.
The City Center Access Project is designed to relieve traffic safety concerns and congestion at the I-5 and S 320th Street interchange.
Currently the City Center Access Project is in "Phase 2 Environmental Assessment." During this phase, a preferred alternative will be selected to improve existing and future traffic circulation, reduce the number and severity of accidents in the city's transportation network related to the I-5 and S 320th Street interchange, while trying to avoid or mitigate potential environmental impacts.
Three alternatives are being evaluated. Primary features include:
Alternative 1, North City Center Access - Modify freeway ramps from S 320th Street to S 312th Street
Alternative 2, South City Center Access - Modify freeway ramps from S 320th Street to S 324th Street
Alternative 3, No-build.
Items on display at the open house include:
Preliminary design drawings, informational boards and animated new technology design visualization presentations of the alternatives
Environmental findings
Traffic simulations for existing conditions and for conditions forecasted to the year 2035.
Other traffic information including existing collision summaries, existing traffic volumes and Level of Service results as well as volumes and Level of Service results forecasted to the year 2035.
Project schedule and next steps.
