Two West Seattle restaurants are getting a boost this month with the "New Urban Eats" deal that's bringing an influx of new people to Ama Ama Oyster Bar and Grill and Spring Hill to enjoy three courses for $30.
With the economy down, restaurants have been more quiet than usual.
"We're definitely feeling the crunch,," said co-owner of Ama Ama Oyster, Rob Coburn.
But he is optimistic about the New Urban Eats.
"It really helps people come and see the restaurant and look over the whole menu," he said.
The promotion, sponsored by The Seattle Times, lasts throughout January. It exists strategically to lure cautious spenders who still want a good meal out and it helps boost business for restaurants.
At Ama Ama, Coburn estimates the promotion saves customers about 20 percent.
Spring Hill is benefiting from the New Urban Eats also.
"It helps business predominantly in the months that are slow," said dining room manager Richard Gonzales Jr.
January, commented Gonzales, is one of the slowest months of the year for restaurants.
Participating restaurants are required to pay a marginal fee to The Seattle Times, but the newspaper handles getting the word out about the deal, saving a lot of time and money for restaurant owners.
