"Hot Planet Seeks Cool Moms" is the byline for the web site CoolMom.org. Cool Moms is a Seattle based non-profit that brings busy moms into the climate action network in three ways: through education, through lifestyle change, and by supporting policies that mitigate global climate change. About a year ago Camp Long and Cool Moms joined forces to co-sponsor activities and events at the Environmental Learning Center to support education and individual actions that counteract global climate change. Join us Friday, Jan. 23 for a movie night about bugs.
When West Seattle mom Kristy Royce invited friends to watch Al Gore's documentary An Inconvenient Truth, the movie sparked conversation about global warming and what local families can do to lessen our impact. That initial conversation spurred Kirsten McCaa to join with Royce in 2007 to co-found Cool Moms, and she now acts as Director. Abby Suplizio and Laura Elfline co-lead the West Seattle Chapter which meets every 1st Wednesday, 7 p.m. at C&P Coffee Company on California Ave.
"There are 82 million moms in the U.S.," Suplizio points out. "They buy 80 percent of the retail. That's a lot of power." CoolMom.org is full of facts, tips, and questions answered by the group's scientific board of advisors.
