State Rep. Zack Hudgins (D-Tukwila) has been appointed by the House Democratic Caucus to serve as Majority Floor Leader throughout the 2009-10 legislative biennium.
This is Hudgins' fourth two-year term in the House of Representatives, during which he has served in a leadership position every term.
As floor leader, Hudgins is a member of the House Leadership's inner circle and directs the day's action on the House Floor. He also represents the caucus to the minority party as the two debate and negotiate legislation.
"It's an honor to be chosen by my peers in the House Democratic Caucus to lead them through this important biennium in Washington's history," said Hudgins. "Our state faces tough challenges and I'm certain there will be lively debate around addressing those challenges."
Hudgins said he believes his prominent leadership position will also allow him to continue be an even greater voice for the needs of the South King County communities he represents.
Outside of his leadership roles Hudgins will serve on the Environmental Health, Transportation and Technology committees.
"People in Washington are worried about the future, and the Democrats in Olympia are listening to them as we prepare for a tough budget discussion," added Hudgins. "We will focus on creating jobs through traditional ways like building roads and schools, and new ways, like looking towards alternative energy and technological innovation."
