June Boynton Shinkle Gasparovich

Born to Ira and Lydia Shinkle on June 21, 1914 in Seattle, WA. Died on April 22, 2006 at the age of 91. June attended Coe Elementary School on Queen Anne and later the family moved to Tacoma where she graduated from Stadium High School in 1932. She went on to the University of Puget Sound and the University of Washington where she earned her secondary teaching degree and graduated in 1936.

She met her husband Tony when she took her first teaching job in the little town of Wishkah, WA. He taught history and was a coach and she was a math teacher. They were married in 1943, while he was in the Army and lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico for two years before moving back to Seattle and buying a house on Queen Anne. She lived in that house for 50 years before a fall forced her to move to Bayview Manor, where many of her friends lived. June was a very private person who had many life-long friends. She taught in Seattle Schools for nearly 28 years before retiring in 1983.

June and Tony were a devoted couple, sharing their Kingston home with family and friends, traveling to Europe several times after retirement, and involved in those things that they supported. Since Tony was a coach, she attended many a football and baseball game and loved the people she came to know through his coaching. Tony died in 1985 after complications of Heart Surgery and although her life changed drastically, she continued to keep busy and active in the many organizations to which she belonged. She attended Queen Anne Methodist Church and belonged to a Women's Circle as well as Queen Anne Historical Society, Pioneers of Washington, Delta Kappa Gamma, P.E.O., Seattle Retired Teachers Association and the University Women. She supported many charitable organizations, with Northwest Center for the Retarded and Children's Hospital being favorites.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ira and Lydia Shinkle, her brother, Jimmy Shinkle, and her husband Tony. She is survived by her cousins, Marion Dankel, Laurie (Pat) Dankel and Tony's nephews and nieces, Greg Antoncich, Sue (Rob) Haberman, Wally and Wendy Antoncich, Gail Warner, Jodie (Allan) Hanson and their families and her good friend, Mary Ellen Mottle. The loving care she received at Bayview Manor will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the charity of your choice.
