Sheila Marie Cox, passed away on Feb. 26, 2008 after a long fight with cancer. Although she never married, her family was large and included many persons whom she deeply touched. Her adult years were filled with a joyful approach to life. Always ready to share her life experiences and insights with those who asked. She was a good listener and a compassionate advocate for the underdog.
A resident of Ballard for more than 65 years, Sheila attended St. Alphonsus Grade School and Holy Angels High School, graduating from there in 1959. Her life journey took her to San Francisco in the 1960's. There she became friends with Janis Joplin and other singers of the 1960's. After returning to Seattle, she enjoyed many years counseling in chemical dependency programs. She lived with her mother Etta, beginning a long life dedicated to helping others in her spare time as well as her mother Etta.
Her family was a very important part of her life. Vacations occurred annually in California visiting her sister Barbara Fay and her family in Sacramento and her brother Chuck and his family in San Diego. Always she would call home to see how Mom was doing. She exhibited great devotion to her and concern for her welfare. She was faithful to her employer SSA Marine and truly enjoyed her coworkers.
A Celebration of Life memorial service was held at St. Alphonsus on Saturday, March 1st followed by a reception at Fremont Baptist Hall. She truly touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew her. Sheila is survived by her mother Etta Cox, sister Barbara Fay and brother Chuck Cox.
