Ruth Virginia Martin

Passed away in Seattle on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the age of 92. She was born in St. Ignace, Michigan on April 19, 1915. Ruth was the youngest daughter of Thomas and Flora Beveridge. She moved to West Seattle with her family in 1922 where her father owned and operated the Spring Hill Grocery store. Ruth attended Jefferson Elementary School, James Madison Jr. High School and was graduated from West Seattle High School in 1934.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Norman Martin. They were married in 1935 and began their married life in Skamokawa, Washington. In 1940 Ruth and Norman returned to West Seattle and stayed. Ruth was an active member of the community. She helped take the Census in West Seattle in 1960. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader, participated in PTA, Orthopedic Guild, West Seattle Garden Club and belonged to the Tarettes of Queen City Yacht Club where she and her husband were long time members. Ruth and Norm were avid boaters and spent many years plying the waters of Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands with their boat, Runoma. Ruth also enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends, spending time in her yard and garden and visiting with friends and family.

Ruth is survived by her daughters Nancy Morningstar (Douglas) and Norma Guenthoer (Don), four grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 3 in the afternoon at the Queen City Yacht Club in Seattle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Medic One of Seattle or the charity of your choice. Please contact Howden Kennedy Funeral Home for information.
