Donald Roy Fisher

Donald Roy Fisher was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Pueblo, Colo., to Robert S. and Anna Johanna (Kern) Fisher. He was the second of two children, preceded by his sister Mildred.

Don was raised by his aunt, Mrs. J. S. Harmon of Arlington, Texas. His love for all things aviation began as a small boy. He became an Army Air Corps officer in World War II and earned distinction as a pilot of a B-17, winning the Distinguished Flying Cross medal among others. He earned a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Wichita in 1950 and began a career with the Boeing Aircraft Company.

He married Margaret Paula Ellett in July 1950 and took her toddler son, Michael J. Ellett, as his. They had two children of their own -- Kathleen E. (Fisher) Jolliffe and Madaleen K. (Fisher) Faber. His wife died in August 1999.

Don is survive by his children, stepchild, and their spouses; their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family moved to Seattle in February 1963 and Don has resided in southern King County since then. As a Weights Engineer, he worked on some special projects for the company in the Military Aircraft Division for most of his career; retiring in 1991 with 42 years of service.

Don was a very special person kind, gentle and caring to all he met, and always conscientious of others. All of us who knew him well, loved him dearly. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, family times, and his friends. He was a first-rate gemstone faceteer and belonged to the Federal Way Gem Club as treasurer and the Boeing Employees Mineralogy Society.

Viewing was held on April 11 with funeral services April 12 at Yahn & Son Funeral Home in Auburn. Burial with military honors followed the service at Mountain View Cemetery in Auburn. Please visit the family's online guest book at www.yahnandson.com.
