State cross country
The state cross country meets were held at the Sun Willows golf course in Pasco this past Saturday, with Alem Belete of Foster coming through with the top area finish.
Belete placed 10th in the Class 2A girls race with a time of 19:21.37.
Jordan McPhee of Mount Rainier also came through with a strong finish in the Class 4A girls portion of the meet, capturing 13th place with a time of 18:34.04.
Two Evergreen runners competed in the 2A boys race, with Marcus Chacon taking 18th place for the Wolverines in 16:20.20 and Matthew Chacon finishing 40th in 16:42.17.
Albachew Shiferaw of Tyee took 58th in the same race in a time of 16:55.26.
Alexis Sata of Tyee came in 116th in the 2A girls race with a 21:56.37 effort.
Tyler Ridings of Seattle Christian took 53rd in the 1A boys race in 17:24.4 and teammate Brandon Seeger was 74th in 17:49.1.
On the girls side, Gabby Watson of the Warriors finished 54th in 21:06.73.
Girls swimming
West Central District 3A
Kennedy Catholic captured first place as a team in the West Central District 3A girls swimming and diving meet held Saturday at Lindbergh High School in Renton, scoring 211 points.
Highline also place in the meet, taking 14th place with 13 points.
JFK opened the meet by taking first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 54.91 seconds, then Vanessa Moffatt of the Lancers placed first in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.40 with teammate Angela Gagliardo splashing to a win in the 200 individual medley in 2:12.60.
Natalie Mutter of the Lancers was second in the 50 free in 26.10 with teammate Hannah Baillie second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.30.
Moffatt took the 500 free in 5:14.05 and Gagliardo was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.48.
Kennedy finished off the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:46.48.
West Central District 2A
Evergreen High School of White Center placed 14th as a team in the West Central District 2A girls swimming and diving meet, scoring 20 points.
