West Side Snow Report December 23rd 2017
Sat, 12/23/2017
With families visiting for the holidays, and the stresses of the season, I am recommending you take 2 days in the mountains and call me in the morning. Yep, its awesome up in the Cascades and Olympics so we recommend you get up there if you can. We have had several good storm cycles come through since the high pressure has broken, and coverage is great for this time of year.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day should be great times to escape the crowds up on the slopes, so go if you can. However if you will be going up to our ski areas between December 26th and New Years Day leave early and pack your patience as this will be the busiest time of the entire season. Head up with holiday cheer in your heart, and kindness for fellow man and enjoy the spectacle that is a large population in the alpine environment.
Mt Baker reported 22 inches of fresh snow on 12/20 with clear skies, bringing their storm total to over 40 inches.
Stevens Pass Ski Area has the goods, with more snow showers on the way tonight through the weekend.
I took my boys up to Silver Fir base area at the Summit at Snoqualmie this week, and it was great way to get into the season. The new lodge is comfortable and with only one lift, you can keep an eye out for your party if you ride at different speeds.
Crystal Mountain is off the hook, with Northway chair lift opening today. It's the biggest ski area in Washington, and if you are a non-skier, you can still ride the Gondola to the top and have a gourmet meal looking over Mt. Rainier if it's not socked in. It wasn't socked in Dec 21st.
Here are links to local ski areas so you can visit their sites for the most up to date info. If you had a great day on the mountain, come by Mountain to Sound Outfitters and let us know how your trip was or feel free to post in the comment section.
Make sure you check the WSDOT Pass Reports for driving conditions.
And get out there however you can!
