It has been snowing in the mountains for days! All the mountains in the area have received snow, every day, for the past ten days. Mt. Baker had so much that they had to close the other day, receiving a total of 225 inches in the month of January! With all this snow comes much more responsibility, and despite the adage “no friends on a powder day,” you should definitely ski with a buddy. Crystal is recommending that guests wear probes, beacons, and shovels, and tree wells at all mountains are big, deep, and in play.

A warming trend will hit the area Thursday afternoon, but fret not; they will lower slightly by Friday afternoon to 5000 feet with snow moving back in on Monday. This lull will allow the powder to settle out and set up more of a base for future storms.

To celebrate all the snow, Stevens pass is holding Jim Jack’s Cowboy Up Junior Freeride Challenge this weekend so you can go watch the groms shred the gnar. Alpental’s ski patrol is holding a Spaghetti Feed on the 3rd at 6pm, where you can fill your bellies and support the volunteer ski patrol. Crystal will be hosting their Mighty Mite Slalom this weekend. So get out there, hit the slopes, and enjoy the pow.
