Ballard 2, West Seattle 1
Ballard and West Seattle battled for the Metro League tournament championship at Steve Cox Memorial Park in White Center with the Beavers prevailing in a close, low-scoring affair Saturday.
Both teams advance to state, but West Seattle faces an extra loser-out step.
The 15th-seeded Wildcats host No. 18 University for a 7 p.m. Tuesday pigtail game at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
Ballard goes straight into a state Class 3A regional game Saturday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue against the winner of a Tuesday playoff between No. 20 Ridgeline and No.11 Shorewood.
Puyallup 13, Kennedy 1
Kennedy Catholic took a lopsided loss to the undefeated and top-ranked Vikings in a Saturday District 3/4 Class 4A semifinal at Tahoma High School.
The Lancers will still advance to the state regional level this coming Saturday, going over to West Valley of Yakima to play Richland at 1 p.m.
Kennedy needs back-to-back wins to reach the state semifinals the following Friday.
The Lancers are the No. 12 state seed and Richland the No. 5.
Fastpitch softball
Evergreen 19, Chief Sealth 14
The Wolverines slugged their way past the Seahawks and into the state Class 2A tournament in a loser-out game played Saturday at Juanita High School.
Evergreen advances as the No. 15 state seed, taking on No. 2 Mark Morris in a 9 a.m. opener at Carlon Park in Selah.
The Wolverines play again at 3:30 p.m. if they win and at 1:30 p.m. if they lose.
The tournament runs through Saturday.
Nathan Hale 12, Evergreen 2
Evergreen fell to the Rams in an earlier Saturday District 2 semifinal playoff.
Liberty 4, Ballard 3
Ballard played the Patriots for the District 2 Class 3A championship Friday and came up short to settle for second.
The Beavers now advance to the state tournament at the Regional Athletic Center in Lacey, taking on Monroe in an 11 a.m. opener.
Ballard enters as the No. 5 state seed and Monroe as the No. 12.
The winner plays again at 3:30 p.m. and the loser plays again at 1:30 p.m.
The tournament continues through Saturday.
Chief Sealth 22, Foster 4
Chief Sealth ousted the Bulldogs from the District 2 Class 2A tournament Friday.
Auburn-Riverside 5, Mt. Rainier 3
Mount Rainier's season ended with the Friday evening loss at the District 3/4 Class 4A tournament held at the Kent Service Club.
Skyview 17, Mt. Rainier 2
The Rams were spanked by Skyview in their Friday afternoon opener.
Granite Falls 4, Tyee 0
Tyee was shut out in a season-ending Class 1A playoff loss Friday at Granite Falls.
Evergreen 15, Sultan 10
Evergreen opened 2A playoff action Thursday with a home win at North SeaTac Park.
Lindbergh 15, Chief Sealth 0
Chief Sealth was shut out by the Eagles in its opener Thursday.
Cedarcrest 16, Foster 0
The Bulldogs were also blanked in their Thursday opener.
Cedar Park Christian 15, Tyee 0
Tyee was topped in a Thursday 1A playoff opener.
Boys soccer
Foster 2, Chief Sealth 1
Foster won Saturday's battle with the Seahawks for a state Class 2A berth.
The No. 16-seeded Bulldogs visit No. 1 Bainbridge in a Tuesday opener at a place and time to be determined.
Ballard also opens state that night as a No. 19 Class 3A seed, visiting No. 14 Kent-Meridian.
