White Center is preparing to mark a major community milestone with a two-day ribbon-cutting celebration for the new Hope, Unity, and Belonging (HUB) building. The festivities are scheduled to begin on Saturday, January 24, 2026, with a second day of events focused on community and families on Sunday, January 25. Both days of the celebration will commence at 11:30 am at the project site located at 10829 8th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98146.
Grand Opening Festivities
The White Center Community Development Association (WCCDA) and the HUB Team invite the public to explore every corner of the new facility while enjoying delicious local food.
The event will feature a variety of engagements, including the "Rooted in White Center" docuseries project and kid-friendly activities designed for families. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet the HUB tenants, which include multiple local nonprofits that played a role in shaping the space.
Because on-site parking is very limited, organizers encourage attendees to consider carpooling, using public transit, or utilizing parking at Dick Thurnau Park or along 108th Ave SW.
Project Background and Impact
The HUB is a major mixed-use community development designed to serve as a cultural and civic anchor for the neighborhood. The project was shaped by the White Center Neighborhood Advisory Council and extensive community input to ensure it met local needs.
The facility includes several key components:
• Affordable Housing: The building features 76 apartments designed for families, offering a mix of one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom units. These homes are restricted to households earning 30%, 50%, and 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
• Community & Human Services Center: A three-story, 25,000-square-foot center will host providers offering youth services, family support, and community programs.
• Public Plaza: An outdoor public plaza and shared community space will serve as a gathering spot for the neighborhood.
Financing and Timeline
The journey to the grand opening began with a groundbreaking on May 18, 2024. Following approximately 16 months of construction, the project reached completion in late 2025.
The development was made possible through a massive $49.3 million financing package closed by the WCCDA, which included Low−Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) equity ,bond proceeds, and funding from both King County and the State of Washington. Additionally, a $46.6 million financing package from Capital One specifically supported the construction of the affordable housing component.
