A busy week of prep athletics around the South Sound and Seattle area showcased explosive offenses, dominant pitching, and a few emerging contenders beginning to separate themselves as league play approaches.
In baseball, Mount Rainier Rams delivered one of the loudest statements of the weekend, erupting for 21 runs in a rout of Lewis & Clark and later battling Bonney Lake to a rare 7–7 tie. Their offensive depth was matched by Kennedy Catholic Lancers, who continued an impressive run with three wins in four outings, including a shutout of Grants Pass and a decisive victory over Battle Ground. The Lancers’ combination of timely hitting and reliable pitching has them looking like an early non-league standout.
Consistency also defined Chief Sealth Seahawks, who notched wins over Eisenhower and Highline, showing balance on both sides of the ball despite a setback against Blanchet. Meanwhile, Bellevue Wolverines posted the most dominant single-game performance of the slate with a 21–1 demolition of Evergreen, underlining their offensive firepower. Highline Pirates and Ballard Beavers experienced mixed results, each alternating between strong offensive showings and defensive lapses, suggesting middle-of-the-pack positioning as standings begin to take shape. Early indications point to Kennedy Catholic, Mount Rainier, and Bellevue as teams to watch as league races develop.
On the fastpitch diamond, Highline Pirates softball emerged as one of the week’s most dominant squads, piling up 41 runs across two commanding wins and overwhelming opponents with both power hitting and aggressive baserunning. Mount Rainier Rams softball displayed volatility—blasting Auburn by 16 runs but suffering a lopsided defeat to Lynden—highlighting a team capable of explosive output but still searching for consistency. Ballard Beavers softball found themselves in several tight contests, including a one-run loss to Newport, signaling competitiveness but difficulty closing games.
Elsewhere, West Seattle Wildcats softball showcased offensive strength in a 21-run outburst, while Curtis Vikings softball and Lynden Lions softball proved potent at the plate in high-scoring wins. Kennedy Catholic Lancers softball, however, endured a difficult stretch against top-tier competition, suggesting they may face an uphill climb in league standings unless pitching stabilizes.
In boys soccer, West Seattle Wildcats boys soccer and Ballard Beavers boys soccer emerged as early pace-setters. West Seattle’s emphatic wins, including two 7–0 routs, highlight a high-powered attack and disciplined defense, positioning them near the top of the table. Ballard, meanwhile, demonstrated consistency and resilience with multiple close victories, indicating a balanced squad capable of grinding out results.
Kennedy Catholic Lancers boys soccer showed defensive strength with a shutout of Mount Rainier but struggled to maintain momentum against Skyline, while Chief Sealth Seahawks boys soccer displayed flashes of competitiveness, including a draw with Ingraham, but lacked scoring punch in key matchups. As league play looms, West Seattle and Ballard appear firmly in control near the top, with several teams jockeying for position behind them.
Across all three sports, the week revealed a clear theme: teams with explosive scoring ability, whether on the baseball field, softball diamond, or soccer pitch—are gaining early separation, while others will need sharper defense and consistency to climb the standings in the weeks ahead.
