Valerie Wright

Valerie "Val" Wright, a beloved wife, mother, and devoted woman of faith, passed away on April 22, 2026, in Renton, Washington, at the age of 88, due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease. She passed quickly and quietly with family at her side.

Valerie was born on May 20, 1937, in Shelton, Washington, from ‘Pioneer’ stock on both sides of her family. In the years following, her family followed the lumber mill trade, moving to Glendale, Prospect, and then Jefferson, Oregon. It was in Jefferson that she met and married her high school sweetheart, John Wright, on September 16, 1955, beginning a partnership of extraordinary depth and enduring love. Together they moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where Valerie supported John through his engineering degree at Oregon State College, earning what she called her "PHTD," Pushed Hubby Through Degree. It was in Corvallis that their family began to grow.

Valerie possessed a melodic voice and a deep love of music. She sang throughout her life, participating in choral groups, chorus, and choir wherever she went. She and John were known for singing duets on family road trips, filling the car with harmony, silliness and joy. She had a great love of musicals and, to the surprise and delight of her family, developed an unexpected fondness for the music of the 1980s along with her children. She was a devoted sun worshiper, a passionate reader of history, and an enthusiastic crafter whose many hobbies brought beauty and creativity into her home. Other interests included the love of cats, baking, canning, and rustic hunting & camping!

Valerie dedicated 37 years of volunteer service to Highline Hospital (now St. Anne Hospital in Burien, Washington) and served as President of the Auxiliary from 1985 to 1987. She was equally devoted to her church family, serving faithfully at West Seattle Christian Church and then at Normandy Christian Church in Des Moines, Washington, (now North Hill Christian Church) for 30+ years as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and director, and leader of the "Seasoned Saints" support ministry. She stood beside John as he served as a deacon and elder through their years together. Her faith in Christ was the foundation upon which she built her life, and it guided her in all things.

Valerie is survived by her husband, John Wright; her daughter, Elane Wright Rosok; and sons, Robert "Bob" Wright and Gregory "Greg" Wright; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

We ask that Valerie be remembered for the love, music, and the light she brought into the lives of all who knew her.
