Joanne Audett Griffin, 63, wife of Michael for 41 years and mother of five, died January 16 of a rare cancer after a long illness. She was very proud to be a fifth generation West Seattlite; her great grandfather served on the West Seattle city council. In 1964, she graduated from Seattle University with a BA in Education. She was a long-time Camp Fire leader, specializing in nature studies and known as "Big Bird" at summer camp. Traveling throughout the west was one of her joys, hunting down antique shops, auctions, rock collections and garage sales along the way. Her home parish was Our Lady of Guadalupe, where she was an active member of the senior club. Her favorite job, though, was being a mother; no problem was too insignificant to warrant her attention; family meals and holidays were special events; spending quality time with her vast family was a priority and her joy. She is survived by her mother, Mary Audett; husband, Michael; four daughters, Christine, Michele, Karoline and Elizabeth; son, Jeffrey; and many grandchildren. Her family was very fortunate to be with her until the end, especially her husband who gave her constant, loving care. Memorials can be sent to the Bailey-Boushay House in Madison Park in thanks for their compassionate service.
