Good grief Charlie Brown!
Last time I looked the viaduct was and I assume still is a state route not a City of Seattle street. Does Mr. Licata and the supporters of tear down and don't replace really think the State of Washington cares if some big boys in downtown Seattle want that view property?
By putting the tear option on the ballot it will not only split the vote but if it should pass the end result will be years of litigation in the courts and during that time the cost of both other options will sky rocket.
I do agree with Mr. Licata that not one, not one, single public project I am aware of has come in on time or within the amount budgeted for said project.
We should also make them address their plan that there will be no exits into downtown from the viaduct between Western and Royal Brougham (although I understand from what is available to the public at this time they aren't even sure about Royal Brougham). So does that mean to get into downtown one would have to go through Pioneer Square as the only way to downtown? If true, that is the most stupid plan I can think of.
Another concern is the seawall. At first the seawall was to be completely replaced as part of the tunnel proposal and the last information I have seen is that due to the added cost to the tunnel proposal the plan is now to replace only a portion of the seawall. Heaven knows I am not a genius but my last dollar says if the tunnel option is the choice that once they start it will be whoops.
We have to replace the entire seawall.
Picture this: retired Mayor Nickels tells his great grandson, look at the legacy I have left you and your generation a tunnel through the city so all the big buildings have views....blah, blah. Great grandson says, but great grandpa I am paying for it and my family and I will miss you as we have to move out of the City. We can't afford to live here like you and great grandma do.
