Burien’s third annual Spring Stroll Art Walk will paint its definition of art with a broad brush, extending beyond the visual to such offerings as food, wine and books.
Presented by the Discover Burien Association, the art walk on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will spread out along Southwest 152nd and 153rd streets in downtown Burien.
Strollers can explore the expressions of dozens of talented artists, plus the Spring Stroll’s fresh additions, both outside and inside businesses marked with balloons.
The event’s new entries often reflect the nature of the business where they are situated.
Maps, art walk details and tasty treats from Trader Joe’s will be available at the information booth sponsored by Trader Joe’s in the former Gottschalks parking lot on Southwest 152nd Street near Fourth Avenue Southwest.
Lovers of the visual arts will find fascinating works in every form. Purely visual artistry ranges from watercolors to fused and handblown glass, pastels, photographs and more.
Some of the artwork is as functional as it is beautiful, including planters and picture frames that incorporate found objects from the Burien area.
In the wearable art category, several jewelry makers will display their hand-fashioned pieces.
Artists will demonstrate their craft, from glass blowing at Glass Expressions to beading techniques at Fireweed Bead Co. Most artists will be on hand to discuss and sell their work.
Enjoy live music at the Seahurst Gallery while perusing a broad selection of artistic creations. Strollers can find the gallery, one of two cooperative galleries in Burien, on Tenth Avenue Southwest just around the corner from Southwest 152nd Street.
In the literary arena, Burien Books will host David McCumber, a Burien resident and managing editor of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, signing his books from 1 to 3 p.m.
Downtown Burien restaurants will dish up samples of their cuisine, including Mediterranean Grocery, The Daily Perk Bakery & Cafe, Sal’s Deli, The Australian Pie Company and Dan the Sausageman.
The Mark Restaurant and Bar will hold a wine tasting. Poggi Bonsi Cucina, where Mary Lou Sanelli will sign her cookbook The Immigrant’s Table, will have food and wine sampling.
The Spring Stroll Art Walk is sponsored by Prudential Northwest Realty Associates, LLC, the Highline Times, the Mark Restaurant and Bar and Trader Joe’s.
