Neighbors assist on land and sea

Neighbors came to the rescue of a 3-year-old whose mother, they told 911 operators, was intoxicated and unable to care for her. Concerned when the stumbling mom_s yelling suddenly stopped, they went to check on the child. Mom was passed out on the sofa, so they left a note, took the child, and called authorities. Mom woke up when officers arrived and told them her child was in the bedroom. The child, of course, was not there, but officers found an open balcony door and cigarette butts scattered on the floor (along with burn marks in the carpet). The stove was on (but nothing was cooking), and several empty wine bottles were on the kitchen counter. Child Protective Services took responsibility for the youngster.
Two other local heroes, both Alki residents, came to the rescue of a local man who was spotted floating face down in the waters of Alki Beach Wednesday afternoon. The two, with the help of another Seattle resident, pulled the man from the water and performed CPR until medics arrived. When last seen, the victim had a pulse and was breathing on his known but was unconscious.
Two young women and a male friend had arranged to meet some clients at Westwood Village. (The women were to perform at a bachelor party.) The women assured the clients that they were good dancers and that they had already made several thousand dollars that day. The customers apparently decided that the money had more allure, because after climbing to the dancers_ car for a ride to the party location, a suspect held a gun to one girl_s head and demanded their wallets, threatening to _pop you in the head_ if they didn_t comply. The women_s male friend, who was driving the car, saw a police car coming toward them on Barton, and he deliberately made a sudden U-turn right in front of the police vehicle. The suspects bailed out and ran off with $2,200. An area search was unsuccessful. The suspect with the gun was a dark-skinned male, either black or Hispanic. He wore a black jacket and had short black hair. The other suspect is a large white male in his 20s, with long, greasy black hair. He also had facial hair.
A man called 911 to complain of ongoing problems with _noisy_ neighbors. He said he had armed himself with a shotgun but complied with the operator_s order to put the shotgun down and go outside to talk with officers. He admitted to drinking, although he takes medications that do not mix well with alcohol. He frequently broke into tears and, according to officers, _never really comprehended why we were at his home._ The report states that the house was in disarray, covered in newspapers, garbage, and books about serial killers. The officers confiscated the shotgun and provided the man with a case number. Their report will be forwarded to Mental Health Court, with the advisory that the gun not be returned. A computer check shows that the neighbors in question have a protection order against the man.
Friday night, in the 4100 block of 19th SW, officers arrived to investigate multiple reports of gunshots at a party among _a few friends._ The suspect had departed, but officers found that the small party consisted of more than two-dozen uncooperative people in their late teens and early twenties. They had been consuming alcohol and showed signs of narcotics use. Officers found one 15-year-old girl who was passed out and could barely be revived. Medics arrived and also checked the well-being of several adults who were passed out in the home. In addition, a runaway from Tacoma was identified and returned to her stepfather at the Southwest Precinct.
Responding to a burglary alarm at Sealth High Schools, officers were able to track and arrest three suspects, ages 18, 16, and 17. A fourth suspect was identified and released to his parents. All are local residents.
