ends in SeaTac crash
A police pursuit of a stolen car on Aug. 9 ended with a front-yard crash in a residential area of SeaTac.
The chase began after a Washington State Patrol trooper stopped the driver of the stolen 1993 Lincoln Towncar at International Blvd. S. and S. 160th St. at 6:13 p.m.
According to state patrol spokesman Kelly Spangler, the driver pulled the car over, but then put it in reverse, rammed the trooper's cruiser and sped away.
The trooper, who was not injured, pursued the suspect through SeaTac.
King County Sheriff's deputies and SeaTac police officers responded as the suspect turned off the highway at S. 176th St.
The driver turned north on S. 32nd Ave., but swerved east on S. 173rd St. to avoid a spike strip that deputies had placed in the roadway to stop the stolen vehicle, according to Sgt. John Urquhart, spokesman for the sheriff's office.
At 34th Ave. S., the suspect ran through a stop sign at 60 mph. The stolen vehicle was struck in the intersection by a sheriff's cruiser that has been paralleling the chase on 172nd.
The 42-year-old sheriff's sergeant, who was unable to stop in time, was not injured.
"The suspect's car rotated and ended up upside down on the back of our patrol vehicle," said Urquhart.
The 47-year-old driver of the 1993 Lincoln Towncar was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.
Spangler said the driver, who is from Renton, will be booked into the King County Jail for felony eluding and second-degree assault when he is released from Harborview.
The 41-year-old female passenger was treated at Harborview and booked into jail the next day for two felony warrants not related to the crash, Spangler added.
The driver, when released, will be booked into the King County Jail for felony eluding and second-degree assault, Spangler said.
Fight stops Burien traffic
Burien Police officers and King County Sheriff's deputies blocked a traffic lane on S. 148th St. on Aug. 9 while arresting a suspect involved in a fight.
They were called to the USA gas station on 148th near 4th Ave. S. at 4:50 p.m. where a fight was in progress.
Sgt. John Urquhart, spokesman for the King County Sheriff's Office, said the cause of the fight is unknown.
The suspect, 25, described as a transient from Seattle, was double restrained because of "combative behavior," said Urquhart.
He was booked into King County Jail for second-degree felony assault and a prior DUI warrant.
His 46-year-old victim was taken to Highline Medical Center with facial injuries.
Car prowls at D.M. marina
One car was stolen and another broken into at the Des Moines Marina last week.
On Aug 3, a woman parked her 1991 Ford Ranger near the fishing pier around 4:30 p.m. and went boating. When she returned at 8:30 p.m. it was gone.
On Aug. 7, another woman parked her car in front of D dock and sometime between 11:40 a.m. and 12:55 p.m. her passenger-side window was broken and her purse was stolen.
Shoplifting at Safeway
Two thieves got away with about $85 in groceries from a Safeway store on Aug. 5 around 9 p.m.
As a checker at the store in the 21400 block of Pacific Hwy. S. was ringing up the groceries, one suspect was bagging them and the second suspect was preparing to pay for them.
When the groceries were bagged, one suspect walked out of the store with the merchandise.
After writing a check, the second suspect said she left her ID in her car and promised to return with it. But after leaving the store, she didn't come back.
