On Saturday afternoon, Aug. 6, more than 30 people gathered at the Norse Home on Phinney Avenue for the monthly meeting of REPS, the Radio Enthusiasts of Puget Sound. The highlight of the afternoon was enjoying a live recreation of a Life of Riley show. It was almost like being in the audience at the original broadcast. And afterward the group participated in a telephone interview with one of the original cast members from the show.
I can remember growing up in Seattle those olden days of the early 40s before there was television - when it was all about radio. I hurried home every day from school to thrill to the adventures of Terry and the Pirates. Evenings were time for the thundering hoof beats of Silver during The Lone Ranger. Weekends brought the mysterious adventures of The Shadow and the comedy of Jack Benny and Edgar Bergen.
Old Time Radio, often called simply has a vibrant and enthusiastic following right here in our local neighborhood. REPS meets on the first Saturday afternoon of every month, except in July, at the Norse Home. Visitors are always welcome.
REPS, which is a non profit organization, invites you to have you join with them in sharing the fun as they seek to preserve and protect the best of the past, and to seek the best of radio and audio entertainment today, To find out more about REPS visit their website at www.repsonline.org or email them at repsrepsclub@aol.com. And if you're in the neighborhood the first Saturday in September, drop by the Norse Home, on Phinney across from the Woodlawn Park Zoo, for a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
