Members of the Ballard Emblem Club #216 are currently selling copies of the 2007 Entertainment coupon books to raise money for their giving programs.
The club's Press Correspondent Pat Rice said the Entertainment book sales continue through November 30. The books contain thousands of two for one coupons or fifty-percent off discounts at restaurants, stores, local attractions, sporting events and businesses.
The Emblem Club, named after the flag of the United States is a service group that raises funds year round for charitable projects.
Eight fundraising events or more are held annually so the club can give out scholarships and donations to community groups, medical foundations, needy families, the Ballard Food Bank and other causes. The club has joined the Washington State Emblem Club in supporting the Pediatric Interim Care Center. The organization takes care of infants born to mothers addicted to drugs.
The fundraisers include the Emblem Club's Holiday Bazaar, luncheons, tea parties, fashion shows, a luau and other activities.
During the holiday season, the Emblem Club adopts a family. Last year, they selected a mother with a child, who was trying to get out of an abusive relationship.
Rice said they were provided with a hot meal, winter clothes and warm jackets.
Members are currently knitting fleece hats, gloves and scarves to give out to under privileged kids.
"They are nice, warm and thick," said Vera Adamson a club member since 1997. She joins 12 other women each Thursday in making the hats.
