Some make the argument that Fire Department service would decline if Burien does not annex a portion of North Highline.
This is not a good argument. Recall, Burien annexed into the Fire District, not the other way around. That means the Fire District is autonomous. It has taxing authority. It can seek voter approval for new bond issues. The city of Burien has no authority over the Fire District.
So, if there is an issue related to needing a new fire station, the Fire District should put it up to a vote. Will the voters approve a bond issue to build a new fire station? If they say no, they are voting for annexation. If they say yes, they are putting their money where their mouth is, and voting for no annexation.
