In September 2006, I had a medical emergency that required my calling 911. My thanks to the 911 operator who answered my call and remained on the line. I could tell her that I heard the sirens coming up 160th and then into my driveway. Both the teams from Fire District 2 and Medic One arrived at my home simultaneously.
Those first responders were able to get into my fully locked home to help me. I was found hovering between life and death, unconscious, having lost almost half my blood, with collapsed veins. I required extensive stabilizing before I could be transported to the Highline Medical Center Emergency Room.
During the time the teams were stabilizing me there was one member who continually told me that I was to "stay with us, you're with us, just stay with us." This was the phrase that kept me alive.
These teams were reassuring, compassionate and professional. Although I have written personal letters to these organizations with enclosed contributions, I have not publicly expressed my gratitude to them.
I am indeed grateful for the quick response, professional training and compassionate attitudes. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
