Concerning the subject editorial, May 9.
It has been my understanding for a number of years that if I, as a bicycle rider, were ever stopped by a policeman, I had better be able to show my driver's license.
As a fitness bicyclist, not a bicycle commuter, I avoid streets as much as possible in favor of bicycle paths, but I always carry my driver's license when "driving" my bicycle. I don't know how underage bicyclists fit into this picture, but my one license should suffice for whatever number of wheels I put on the pavement, motorized or not.
Perhaps one of your readers from the Southwest Precinct or the Cascade Bicycle Club would care to enlighten the rest of us concerning what I believe is already a license requirement.
