Fife-Auburn-Milton-Edgewood closed out its 2007 Washington state championship season of destiny with two consecutive wins in pool play to finish fourth in the Little League Softball Western Regional held July 26-August 1 in Missoula, Montana.
The tournament began with teams representing Southern California, Arizona, Oregon, Montana and Washington.
Washington had problems at bat, being shut out in its first three games. Southern California defeated Washington 3-0 before Arizona similarly shut out Washington 3-0. Washington finally unloaded its armaments after being shut out by Northern California, 3-0.
Closing strongly in the Western Regional, Washington starched Montana 12-5 before finishing with a 16-1 obliteration of Oregon.
Final pool play records were Southern California (4-1), Arizona (4-1), Northern California (3-2), Washington (2-3), Montana (2-3) and Oregon (0-5). The top two finishers in Pool action played a best of three games for the championship. Arizona defeated Southern California 7-4 and 11-1 to advance to the Senior League Softball World Series.
Federal Way National
Federal Way National's Junior baseball team opened its Western Regional tournament with a 10-7 loss to Nevada last Tuesday.
The Nationals were anything but finished, however, as they faced four more games in pool play and four teams out of the five team pool members go on to the upcoming championship portion of the tournament.
Other "pool B" members along with Federal Way's Washington state championship team and Nevada are Alaska, Southern California and Montana.
The action in Beaverton, Ore. continued this past Saturday with National playing Southern California before a Monday meeting with Alaska. Federal Way plays Montana at 9 a.m. Friday to conclude pool play.
