On October 23, at approximately 4 p.m., Federal Way Police were monitoring traffic near South 317th and Interstate 5 Northbound ramp in Federal Way. The officer made contact with a motorist for a HOV violation.
The suspect, a male in his 30s, was apprehended for DWLS (Driving While License
Suspended.) The officers searched his pickup after arresting him. The suspect was found to be in possession of narcotics as well as a pineapple-type grenade.
Federal Way Police officers contacted the Federal Way Bomb Disposal Unit and they responded to render the device safe.
The HOV on-ramp was closed northbound during this incident for precautionary measures but has now been opened to all motorists.
Police determined the explosive device was not going to be used in connection for any terrorists' attacks or threats.
The suspects were placed under arrest and faces charges for DWLS third degree, possession of an illegal substance, and a HOV violation.
