Ibrahim Adam, a survivor of Darfur genocide, carries a symbolic torch on the last leg of a procession that ended next to the Alki Bathhouse Sunday. Seattle and Sudanese students marched behind.
The torch was carried by a sequence of activists in a slow-pace relay march along the Alki sidewalk for about 500 feet, and will now be mailed to another American city, along with several other torches to be passed through 20 states en route to Beijing, China to coincide with the August 8th opening of the Olympic Games there.
Speakers at this event pointed to the oil trade between China and the Sudan, where Darfur is located, and want to put pressure on China to leverage a peaceful solution to that crisis. To learn more, visit www.savedarfurwa.org Photo by Steve Shay.
