After downing a few too many at a Junction bar, a man defaced a mural by making one of the images anatomically correct. What he didn't realize was that a police officer was watching the entire incident unfold. Caught just after the act, the suspect admitted his guilt-and his particular shame since he, himself, is artist by profession. He was banned from the bar and plans to speak to the business owner whose property he "enhanced."
The winter has brought dark days to a number of local citizens. At least six suicide attempts were made in the past week, with one would-be victim only 15 years of age.
A couple's argument disintegrated into a shoving match and ended when the man pushed his girlfriend onto the couch and bit her nose. He had left the scene by the time officers arrived.
Another biting incident landed a 36-year-old woman in King County Jail. She arrived at an acquaintance's home, started an argument, and then bit the hand of a man who was trying to keep her from assaulting another fellow.
On Delridge, someone knocked over a headstone that serves as a memorial to deceased veterans. Some suspect that the same people are responsible for ripping down some nearby military recruitment posters.
When officers went to a Junction-area apartment where a man had allegedly been beaten bloody, they saw several juveniles through a window. But when the door was opened a few minutes later, only one youth was inside, along with a cloud of marijuana smoke and other drug paraphernalia. The others had apparently fled out a balcony door. While there, officers also noticed gang graffiti that matched scribblings seen in the Junction area.
At another Junction establishment, a man was asked to leave after he started fights with customers. He left, but not before slamming a 20-lb signage board into the back of a security guard's head. The 1/2-inch thick board broke, and the guard had to seek medical attention. The suspect fled before officers arrived.
Around 5 a.m. Thursday, alert citizens called 911 to report suspicious activity at a closed Gatewood business. Their detailed descriptions of the suspect and vehicle allowed officers to make an arrest a short time later. The trunk of the man's car was filled with items stolen from the establishment.
On SW Holden, another suspicious citizen called in some concerns about an occupied vehicle. Officers contacted the folks inside and discovered that one was wanted on a $10,000 domestic violence assault warrant. The man was booked into King County Jail.
A local woman reports that her ex-husband has confessed to opening a number of charge cards in her name. She is now on the receiving end of phone calls from creditors seeking more than $15,000.
A car parked on the street was stolen from the 1300 block of 44th SW.
