Monthly meetings of the Alaskan Way Viaduct Stakeholder Advisory Committee are open to the public, though not all are open for public comment. The next meeting is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24. The location hasn't been finalized.
The committee will not make any decisions about what will replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct, which Gov. Christine Gregoire said Thursday will be razed in 2012, with or without Seattle's approval. Instead members will hear proposals - for a new viaduct, a tunnel, surface streets with more transit, even a bridge - and using agreed criteria, recommend an packaged solution to the three departments of transportation, which government executives have the option of adopting.
The committee will make its recommendation to the city, county and state departments of transportation in December.
